In a bid to curtail the invasion of public gatherings by fake journalists, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abuja Council has set up a committee to address the problem of quacks in the profession.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Emeka Nze, calls on Media Organisations, including the online publications in the territory, to summit the list of their bonafide editorial staff to the Council Secretariat, Utako District Abuja for verification.

The Committee urges all hospitality and event centres within the FCT to ensure proper identification of people claiming to be journalists.

The statement urges event organisers and news makers to call the following phone numbers when in doubt of journalists who approach them for interviews.
08036057582 or 08050511314

According to the statement, the NUJ Abuja Council’s war against fake journalists is in line with the present administration determination to wipe out corruption in the country.
